Soon after its founding in the early 1970s, the Office of the U.S. Environmental Protection (EPA) has set up a project «Project Documerica», to examine the state of the environment and take steps to improve it. By 1974, more than 100 photographers participating in the project have made more than 81 thousand pictures.
