Cornhole Is Indeed a Fun Game to Play

by Guest Author

Want to play a fun game that’s competitive, easy to learn and requires minimal equipment? Well, Cornhole may be the best option for you then. You only require a couple of Cornhole platforms & four Cornhole bags per player. If you are not playing Cornhole in teams, you can use a single Cornhole platform (Better known as Targets) as well.

Cornhole Platform

It’s nothing but a wooden box (48’’X24’’) with a 6’’hole in the center top portion of the same. The platform is generally sanded to a smooth finish and later painted with glossy enamel paint. The platform surface should be smooth enough so that the Cornhole bags can slide over it, however, they should not be sliding off the box. The platform sides should be covered and the platform should be at an angle to the player (From ground, the back should be at 12’’ and the front end at 2’’).

Cornhole Bags

These are filled with 2 cups of corn feed (Small dry beans are often used as an alternative) and are of 6’’x6’’ in size. Generally, 4 bags per player are more than enough and they should be of different colors. Thus, it can be easily identified to whom a particular bag belongs.

Rules & Scoring System

Cornhole can be played as a doubles team against another doubles team or between two singles player as well. If this is played as doubles, players of one team are supposed to throw the Cornhole bags from the platform that is directly opposite of his team member. At one time, hence, there is going to be at least one player from each team on one platform. In case of singles Cornhole game, players from both the teams aim at a single platform.

Each player from both the teams throws a bag each from any particular side of the platform (They can choose whatever side they want, but, they must stick to the same for the entire innings). This continues until all the players have thrown their respective bags from one platform. Next, the game moves on to another platform and it continues until all players from a team have thrown all 4 bags; this is called end of an innings.

The players who score the highest from each platform throwing the first bag start off the next innings. If no points were scored in the previous innings, second person to throw the Cornhole bag in last innings start things of.

If the Cornhole bag lands inside the hole on the platform, 3 points are scored. If the bag touches the platform before touching anything else (It should not even touch ground first), 1 point is scored. The team that scores more than 21 points in a specific innings first, wins the match.

You don’t need a huge ground to play Cornhole; it does not require extreme skills either. Just a bit of motivation and ability to aim properly, that’s it! Due to the simple rules and minimal equipment, Cornhole is finding its own place in the landscape of outdoor games pretty fast.
