Skates alive… Andy Logan with the record skate
An angler has landed a record beating skate fish, weighing in at 222 lbs. Andy Logan (38), was fishing near Rathlin Island off the north coast with skipper Hamish Currie when he hooked a catch so strong it bent his rod and dragged the 4.5 tonne fishing boat 2-miles out to sea. Hamish had to reverse the boat towards the mammoth fish to help Andy reel him in. The skate is a record size for the Irish sea, and it took Andy and two men with fishing gaffs to pull the creature on board.
