Welcome to a beginner’s guide to Halo Reach! Get ready to learn how to have confidence against other players, win gunfights, find power weapons and improve your overall skills dramatically. To gain access to these skills, please read on.
First of all, don’t let yourself get intimidated by other players online. Sure they may call you a “newb” or tell you that you’ll lose but don’t listen to them. Be confident in your skills and remember that the more you play, the better you’ll get.
Now! Lock and load this idea in your databanks. Weapon choice is very important. The distance from your enemy will determine a weapon’s effectiveness. For example, shotguns are great for close encounters, while sniper rifles are perfect for long range shots.
This may seem elementary, BUT I’ve over run and taken out countless players in frenzied close range battles who were trying to shoot me with a sniper rifle. If they’d only had a shotgun….
Speaking of close range, one of the most effective tactics you can employ in Halo Reach is to shoot an enemy with a shotgun and then immediately bash them with a melee attack for the kill. It takes some getting used to but it’s definitely worth it!
If you’re tired of being a mediocre player, then here’s a tip that’ll boost your skills. Shot placement!
Know how to get the most out of your weapons. Wounding an enemy does you no good. Firearms, like the DMR (or Designated Marksman Rifle) and sniper rifles, are much more effective when aimed at the head and upper chest of your enemy. You get credit for kill shots and head shots, so take them.
How do you get better at shot placement? Easy! Use the single player modes of Halo Reach to practice your skills. Trust me, this will make you much more effective when you play online.
Above all, don’t get frustrated when you lose a match. If you quit too soon you’ll never know how good you could have become. If you want to rank high and play with the big boys and girls, you can’t let your frustration take over.
Consider every loss as an opportunity to become a better player. And be a good sport about it. Congratulate the opposing team when they win. People don’t like to play with sore losers. And being a good sport may even get you an invitation to join a clan.
Now, if you want a real edge over other players, study the maps. I strongly suggest going through each map in the game with a few friends. This will allow you to figure out where enemies spawn, where weapons are cached, where flags (for capture the flag mode) are hidden and where vehicles are parked.
Start the match off in your team’s favor by throwing a grenade at the enemy team’s spawn. This is particularly effective when multiple team members do it.
Never underestimate a sniper. Snipers can easily pick your team apart 1 by 1 if you’re not careful. That’s why it’s extremely important to give one of the players on your team the job of scouting the edges of the map for snipers.
Many people don’t think that the sniper rifle is a power weapon. However, the reality is quite the opposite. In the right hands the sniper rifle is actually one of the most effective weapons in the game.
There are so many people playing Halo Reach that it’s sometimes hard to rise above the crowd and become a great player. However, if you follow these extremely important tips, your skills will soar to new levels in no time at all. Now grab your weapons and get out there Spartan!
